The Sleep Center at St. John’s Hospital is an accredited center that provides sleep testing for infants, children and adults.
We assist in the diagnoses and treatment of:
- obstructive sleep apnea
- periodic limb movements of sleep
- nocturnal seizures
- narcolepsy
- other sleep disturbances
Insomnia is a very common sleep disorder, but it does not require a sleep study for diagnosis. A physician referral is required for a sleep study. If you suspect you have a sleep disorder, see your primary care physician.
Specialty Services
Inpatient Sleep Disorders Team
This team identifies hospitalized patients suspected of having obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). These patients are evaluated by a member of the Sleep Disorders Team and receive education, an appointment for an outpatient sleep study and a follow-up visit with their primary care physician.
Pre-operative Outpatient OSA Screenings
An estimated 10 percent of surgery patients have undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). OSA can create post-operative complications. If the patient is deemed at-risk for OSA before surgery, precautions are taken. Prior to discharge, the patient’s primary care physician is notified so an outpatient sleep study and follow-up visit can be scheduled.

The Multi-Disciplinary Sleep Clinic provides care for conditions such as sleep disorder breathing and insomnia. For patients with insomnia, the Clinic offers sessions with a cognitive behavioral therapy counselor. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients can speak with a respiratory therapist to discuss the results of their continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) test, as well as a dietitian to provide guidance on weight loss. Self- referrals are welcome.
St. John’s Sleep Center is located in St. John's Pavilion. The Sleep Center conducts studies on Sunday through Friday nights. For more information, call (217) 757-6ZZZ (6999).
