AthletiCare

St. John’s Hospital and Sacred Heart-Griffin (SHG) High School have announced a long-term collaboration that will establish a new AthletiCare facility at the school’s West Campus, offer the community greater access to a comprehensive array of health and wellness services, and provide students with educational opportunities in the health care industry.

About AthletiCare

AthletiCare, the sports medicine and performance program offers the most comprehensive and complete sports medicine and rehabilitation services in the area. Located within Rehab South, 3631 S. 6th Street in Springfield, weekend warriors, fitness enthusiasts, high school and college athletes, as well as professional athletes receive the most advanced training, prevention and rehabilitation programs. This facility also houses Acceleration®, the sports enhancement and training program, a warm-water rehab pool and a four-lane lap pool.

AthletiCare staff

Our staff of sports medicine specialists includes orthopedic surgeons, family practice sports medicine specialists, certified and licensed athletic trainers, physical therapists, occupational therapists and an exercise physiologist.

Community Education Programs

Our emphasis on patient education can help prevent injuries and keep you up-to-date on current trends in sports medicine and rehabilitation.

AthletiCare’s monthly Third Wednesday program offers free community education on topics anging from prenatal exercise to the senior athlete. These programs, held at Rehab South/AthletiCare start at 6 p.m. and last approximately one to one and one-half hours.

AthletiCare also offers a wide range of education programs, clinics, career day speakers and continuing education for coaches, schools, athletic programs, individuals and groups. Continuing education units (CEU’s) for athletic trainers can be earned by attending our NATA accredited seminars. CEU’s for physicians, physical therapists and EMT’s can also be earned at many of our seminars.

Outreach Services

AthletiCare athletic trainers and physical therapists provide ongoing injury prevention and evaluation programs for over 30 high schools and colleges in five central Illinois counties. These services include daily or weekly visits to each school to evaluate injured athletes, follow-up of athletes already seen by an AthletiCare physician or therapist and to assist the coaches with any training problems that may occur during pre-season, in-season or off-season programs. The AthletiCare staff also provides game coverage services for hundreds of sporting events in Springfield and central Illinois each year

Team AthletiCare

Team AthletiCare is an initiative to improve the health of Springfield and the surrounding area by increasing our children’s level of physical activity and fitness. Sponsored by the Friends of St. John’s Hospital, Team AthletiCare challenges community members to join the team by participating in local endurance events to raise funds for physical fitness programs and promote active kids.

The Runner's Clinic

The Runner's Clinic evaluates runners of all ages and abilities by a sports medicine physician and a physical therapist who have special training and interest in treating runners.
