Intensive Care Unit

ICU nurse

The Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at St. John’s Hospital cares for acutely ill medical and/or surgical patients, including traumatic injury. The diverse patient population and intensive therapy that is required make this a challenging and interesting area to work in, especially for the new nurse. Primary care of the patients in the Intensive Care unit is the standard delivery model for care. Multi-system problems are cared for with a multidisciplinary approach utilizing nurses, medical staff and ancillary departments. There are many opportunities for the motivated nurse who wishes to care for the acutely ill adult patient utilizing critical care skills and advanced technology in our Adult Intensive Care Unit.
